1.0.1

Patch

05/10/2026

FileVerdict 1.0.1 changes how title lookups reach OMDb, and fixes automatic cropping on files that have just been added. Improved

  • Title lookups now go through FileVerdict’s own server, without saying who you are. FileVerdict used to ask OMDb directly, with a key built into the app. That key now stays on FileVerdict’s server, which asks OMDb for you. A lookup sends the title guessed from your filename and a short-lived lookup pass, and nothing else: not your license key, your email or your device. Nothing about a lookup is logged, and OMDb no longer sees your IP address. The privacy page describes exactly what is sent and what is kept. If you use TMDB with your own key, nothing changes: those lookups still go straight from your computer to TMDB.
  • A clearer message when lookups are unavailable. If lookups are paused or have reached the day’s limit, FileVerdict says so and carries on renaming from the filename, instead of repeating the request for every file.
Fixed
  • A thin strip where the preview should be. On a file that had just been added, automatic cropping could be worked out from the first few seconds alone. If the video opened on a dark scene, the Compress preview showed a thin strip, and an encode or a tested sample would have been cropped the same way. Cropping is now worked out across the whole file, and a crop that would remove most of the picture is ignored.

1.0.0

Major

05/10/2026

FileVerdict 1.0.0 is the first public release. New

  • Your licence page. The licence screen and the device-limit message now point to licensing.fileverdict.com/account. Sign in there with the email you bought with (a code is emailed to you; there is still no account or password) to see your key, or to free a device you no longer have.
Improved
  • The licence is checked while the app is open, about once an hour, not only when it starts. Working offline is unchanged: FileVerdict keeps running for up to 14 days since its last check, and nothing is shown while the licence holds.
  • A clearer message when a licence has been activated on too many devices recently. It says so and gives the support address, instead of a general server error.
  • The licence screen names the terms you agree to by activating, with where to read them.
Fixed
  • Titles starting with “@”. Writing a Matroska file whose new title starts with “@” failed with “The file could not be opened” whenever a track was being removed, added or re-timed. It now writes normally.
